My name is Sandra and I have been teaching in the Bay Area since 2006. I am a serious teacher and I keep lessons fun, I even own a fidget spinner. I teach all ages, skill levels, and special needs. My private studio requires students to practice a minimum of 30 minutes every day with weekly progress reports, weekly listening to music for their instrument with evaluations, semester auditions and recitals. My lessons consist of fundamentals, technique, songs, listening to music, theory, and ear training. Students are required to record each practice session so I can verify practice time as well as provide suggestions to maximize efficiency. Involvement with outside music ensembles is highly. My students succeed because I adapt my teaching style to their learning style and we make a great team. Any student with enthusiasm is welcome in my private studio!!
I also have a passion to direct small and large ensembles, and would love to start another Brass Quintet, Choir or Trumpet/Trombone Ensemble; These ensembles compete in CMEA local and state festivals where they have won command performances. I have had great success with these chamber ensembles I have formed. Many students have gone to top colleges such as SFCM, UNT, UCLA, USC, to pursue music, and most are still friends.
I am currently teaching and playing trumpet in San Jose, and developing an interest in computers and technology and how that will be applied to the music education field in the future. I see technology, when used appropriately, can be a workable avenue for all children, but especially those with special needs. I have taught many special needs children and have been able to gather many different models of interaction. This has helped me grow as a teacher to communicate on a deeper level to each child, to access their learning needs directly.
